The
first Semicon Europa of the new millennium took over four exhibit
halls in early April at the New Munich Trade Fair Center. Show sponsor
SEMI says 7001 verified visitors attended the event, in addition to
the more than 10,000 exhibitor company personnel from 1174 companies.
The semiconductor industry's robust economic performance fostered
an upbeat mood on the show floor, which was buoyed by large numbers
of high-quality attendees representing most of the European fabs,
according to exhibitors queried by MICRO's staff. During the
President's Dinner held in conjunction with the show, this year's
European SEMI Awards were handed out to Willem Maris, Peter Kücher,
and Horia Grecu. Maris, who retired from ASM Lithography last year,
received lifetime achievement honors for his role in directing the
company's growth to its position as an industry leader. Kücher
of Infineon and Grecu of Motorola were lauded for their efforts as
general manager and deputy general manager, respectively, of the Semiconductor300
joint venture in Dresden, the world's first 300-mm pilot line and
fab. Kücher (far left) and Grecu (inside right) are shown above

2001 takes place April 2426 at the Munich exhibition facilities.
