BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS CO.; ILLUSTRATION BY KELLY JOHNSON
report on the worldwide lithography chemical market for semi-conductors
and related microelectronic manufacturing applications predicts an average
annual growth rate of 9.1% between 2004 and 2009. RC-248 Global Technologies
for Lithographic Chemicals, issued by Business Communications Co.,
sees the segment reaching $6.7 billion in five years, up from $3.79 billion
in 2003 and an expected $4.32 billion in 2004. Flat-panel displays, MEMS,
and other nonsemiconductor uses will take an increasing share—37%—of
that total, compared with 23% of the market in 2003. Photoresists will
continue to be the largest market segment, followed by developers, strippers,
and removers (see above graph). The fastest-growing subsegments are expected
to be etchants and deposition precursors, forecasted to increase at an
annual average rate of 11.9% and 11%, respectively. Regional shares will
follow industry trends, with significant growth seen in the Asian nations
other than Japan and the emerging region becoming the top market by 2009.
