Evenhuis to resign as Lam's CFO; Microbar names Yonenaga Pacific Rim manager; Hiac-Royco taps Spilis as GM; Reineke chosen European vp at TopoMetrix

Jerry Woodall became president-elect of the American Vacuum Society in January. Woodall will serve one year as president-elect, one year as president, and a final year as immediate past president during his three-year stint as head of the New York City–based organization. The president-elect is responsible for selecting the program and the local-arrangement committee chairmen for the society's national symposium, which will be held during the second year of his term. An AVS member since 1981, Woodall is the Charles William Harrison Distinguished Professor of Microelectronics at Purdue University.... Henk Evenhuis will resign his position as CFO of Lam Research on April 30 to serve as a consultant to the process tool vendor through the end of the 1998 fiscal year, when he plans to retire. Evenhuis will help in the search for his successor....Therma-Wave, a vendor of metrology and inspection systems, appointed Charlotte Holland vp of finance and David Mak vp of manufacturing. Holland most recently served as director of finance. Mak was named director of manufacturing in 1994, having joined the vendor from Tencor Instruments.

Daniel Wack was promoted to vp of engineering for Tencor Instrument's film measurement division. Wack is the former director of engineering for the company's wafer inspection division.... K. M. Yang was promoted to gm of Watkins-Johnson International–Korea, the South Korean sales and service operation of Watkins-Johnson's semiconductor equipment group in Scotts Valley, CA. Yang joined the subsidiary in 1994 as sales and marketing manager. In other appointments, James Bondur was named director of plasma R&D for the semiconductor equipment unit and Peter Rose was named director of the company's very low-k program.... Hoechst Celanese has appointed Friedrich Herrold gm of its AZ Photoresist products business. He joins the unit from the parent company's fine chemicals business in Charlotte, NC, where he was business director.... The new gm of Hiac Royco is David Spilis, who has worked at the Silver Spring, MD–based manufacturer of liquid particle counters for two years.

Microbar has appointed Dean Yonenaga to the newly created position of Pacific Rim manager. Before joining the manufacturer of chemical management systems, Yonenaga worked for Prometrix.... Behrooz Ataee was named director of business development at B&W Projects, a Silicon Valley–based company offering engineering and project management services to the semiconductor industry. Before joining B&W, Ataee was responsible for semiconductor industry–related acquisitions at Leopoise, an investment banking firm.... Cambridge Fluid Systems of Uxbridge, England, has named William Locke as business development director. He joins the firm from TI, where he served in Dallas as the chipmaker's contamination control manager, corporate facilities.... Accepting the post of business development executive at American Cleanroom Garments is Joseph Conway.

The new director of Asian technical operations for Johnson Matthey Electronics is J. C. Hart. Hart, who joined the supplier in 1989, was most recently JME's director of applied technology.... Varian's semiconductor equipment unit has named Derric Kwong district support manager, Pacific Rim.... Knights Technology has appointed Jessee Ring corporate director of quality assurance. Ring is the former corporate manager of software quality assurance and a software engineering manager at Applied Materials.... Philbin Scott has been named vp and gm of SpeedFam's product group.... Osmonics has appointed Patrick Kelly to the post of gm and COO of its Phoenix operations, the manufacturing site of the vendor's OREC ozone systems, Lakewood Instruments, and the company's inorganic membrane products.... Rocky Mountain Laboratories has named Art Nelson physicist for the provider of surface chemical analysis and microanalysis services.

Dryden Engineering has tapped Paul Ringelstein, Jr., to oversee U.S. and Asian sales operations as the company's new contamination control specialist. Ringelstein will be based at the company's headquarters in Fremont, CA.... Frank Reineke has been appointed vp of European operations at TopoMetrix, a manufacturer of scanning probe microscopes based in Santa Clara, CA. In a related appointment, the company named David Smith vp of marketing and sales.

Bradley Lawrence has been promoted to North American director of sales at Opal. Joining the company as manager of applications and technical support is Prasanna Chitturi. Robert Johnson also signed on as director of tactical marketing for Opal after working for 10 years in a variety of marketing management positions at the company's new parent, Applied Materials.
