Riedel-de Haën of Seelze, Germany, has developed hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids in sub-parts-per-billion quality after collaborating on two JESSI projects involving the chemicals. The subsidiary of AlliedSignal created suitable reactionary components, modified its production equipment, and selected packaging materials that ensure delivery to customer sites without any loss of quality. Gel-Pak's wafer carriers now come in configurations for shipping and handling fragile wafers. VR600 series carriers are designed to safely ship 10 to 12 4-in. fragile germanium wafers, VR796 models can handle up to a half-dozen 6-in. wafers in a single carrier, and VR900 carriers can accommodate up to four 300-mm wafers. Clestra Cleanroom's AdvancAir HVAC air-handling system for controlling the air in a minienvironment maintains a 70°F environment ± 0.25°F. M-Con Technologies offers a number of contamination tests for evaluating the cleanliness of cleanroom garments. Particle tests such as Helmke Yeich Tumble Drum and ASTM F 51 methods enable cleanroom users to assess a range of characteristics. Apparel or fabrics can be tested for cleanliness level, laundry process effectiveness, wear lifetime, filtration efficiency, and the ability to retain particles generated by the wearer. The WF-700 wafer inspection system manufactured by Israel-based Orbot Instruments now features an automatic defect classification option. The feature enables yield engineers to receive classification data in a single pass inspection with no added throughput. U.S. Filter has designed a ceramic membrane filtration module that holds up to 60% more membrane surface area than previous models. The compact design holds 60 P19-40GL or P37-30GL elements in a 13 1/5-in. housing, or slightly larger than the standard 12-in.-diam module. A new type of gasket surrounds each ceramic element. The Series 45 heated pumping line jackets made by HPS now carry CE marking. The jackets are CE marked to the EMC Directive and to the Low-Voltage Directive.
