IPEC picks McDaniel as president/CEO; Younger succeeds Greed as SEMI board prez; Isago named president of Lam's Japanese unit

William Hightower has joined automated wafer processing tool vendor Silicon Valley Group in the new position of president and COO. Hightower will oversee operations of SVG's three divisions in San Jose; Orange, CA; and Wilton, CT. Hightower is the former chairman and CEO of Cadnet, an Atlanta-based software supplier.... The new president of Solvay Interox is Gary Hall. Most recently, Hall served as vp of manufacturing for the vendor of hydrogen peroxide.... John Kizer has been named vp of finance and CFO at SubMicron Systems of Allentown, PA. Before joining the supplier of wafer processing systems, Kizer was vp and corporate controller of Tylan General.

CMP equipment provider Integrated Process Equipment Corp. (IPEC) has picked Roger McDaniel as its president and CEO. McDaniel, most recently CEO of MEMC Electronic Materials, was a member of IPEC's board of directors.... Peter Younger has succeeded James Greed as chairman of the board of directors of SEMI. Younger is vp and gm of Eaton. He was elected at SEMI's annual membership meeting during Semicon West 97 this past July in San Francisco. Shoichiro Yoshida, president of Nikon, was elected vice chairman, and Roger McDaniel was voted secretary/treasurer.

The new CEO of Photronics is Michael Yomazzo, the company's president and COO. He succeeds Constantine Macricostas, the company's founder.... Donald Lutz has been appointed to the board of directors of Dryden Engineering. He is vp of technology for the Fremont, CA­based contamination control specialist.... The CEO of Electroglas, Curtis Wozniak, has been elected chairman of the company's board of directors, replacing Neil Bonke. Bonke will continue to serve as a board member for the manufacturer of automated wafer-probing tools.... Dexter Electronic Materials has promoted George Collin to senior vp of finance and administration. Collin most recently served as corporate controller.

Yoichi Isago has been appointed president of Lam Research's Japanese subsidiary. He is the former vp of the product business group of Applied Materials Japan. The front-end tool manufacturer also selected Stephen Newberry executive vp and COO and appointed Terrence Plette vp of business finance. Before joining Lam, Newberry served as group vp of global operations and planning for Applied Materials. Plette was CFO and vp of finance and administration at Elantec Semiconductor.... Gerry Winters has been promoted from vp and gm of Tech Spray to executive vp of Tech Chem, the new parent company of the Amarillo, TX­based producer of antistatic solutions.

William Whitlock is the new director of technology and management services for the electronic chemicals division of Ashland Chemical. Whitlock joined the company in 1991 as manager of its chemical management services business. Ashland also named Elizabeth Potts manufacturing manager for the electronic chemicals division and Kimberly Hovey plant manager of its facility in Newark, CA.... Aeronex has appointed Kurt Christian director of operations for the San Diego­based manufacturer of gas delivery systems.

Osmonics has appointed Gary Shushnar gm for its operations in Upland, CA. The Upland plant manufactures the MACE line of Teflon flow-control components.... Plasma etch tool supplier Tegal has named George Landreth vp of new product development.... Steven Vann has been hired by Ion Systems to head a team that will focus on marketing ionization tools to the disk drive industry as it shifts production from inductive to magnetoresistive heads. Vann will serve in the new position of ESD applications manager.... Tony Minei has been appointed project management director at CVC, a manufacturer of thin-film process equipment.

BOC Gases has named Douglas Bailey, the former senior manager for business planning, business development manager for electronic commerce.... Allen Schwartz and Tim McCarthy have joined Veeco Instruments as vp of worldwide customer service and vp of U.S. sales, respectively. The vendor of etch and deposition tools also named Victor Bunze senior director of marketing for the ion beam/PVD systems division.... Joining Eaton Thermal Processing Systems in Peabody, MA, as senior process engineers are Jeffrey Hebb and Jian Zhang. Hebb is a former research assistant at MIT, and Zhang worked at Lam Research as a senior process engineer before joining Eaton.... The new marketing manager at Spectronics is Robert Bache. The company specializes in ultraviolet technology.

Jim McDaniel has been appointed market development manager of fluid-handling products at Thermoplastic Processes.... The new national account manager at Defect Yield Management is Doug Greenfield, formerly of Schlumberger Technologies.... Theresa Milk has been named sales director for Air Enterprises of Akron, OH.
