DISPLAY WORKS 98
Execs to talk business
SAN JOSEIndustry executives from around the world will discuss market forecasts, manufacturing issues, equipment cost factors, and related concerns at a business conference here on the opening day of Display Works 98. The conference will take place on January 20 as part of the third annual trade show, which will be held January 2023 at the San Jose Convention Center. The sponsors of the annual event are USDC, SEMI, and the Society for Information Display (SID).
The keynote speaker of the business conference, titled Enabling New Display Markets, will be Toru Shima, president of Display Technologies. Executives from Applied Komatsu Technology, Candescent Technologies, dpiX, and Planar Systems will also speak. Display Works includes an equipment exposition, manufacturing technology conference hosted by SID, SEMI standards meetings, a rugged display roundtable, and educational seminars. USDC will present an overview of the consortiums roadmap at the manufacturing technology conference. Other topics to be discussed at the SID conference are flat-panel manufacturing, yield improvements, robotics, and manufacturing economics. Info: 650/940-6905.
In related news, USDC announced that Universal Display of Bala Cynwyd, PA, has joined the consortium. Universal Display is seeking to commercially develop organic light-emitting diode technology for FPDs, lasers, and applications such as small cellular phones and HDTV. Its strategic partners are Princeton University and the University of Southern California.
English translations debut
Two leading Japanese FPD publications are now available in English translation. LCD Intelligence Magazine and Display & Imaging Journal are being offered by InterLingua Linguistic Services, a California-based company that specializes in translating business documents. LCD Intelligence Magazine is published monthly. Display & Imaging Journal is a quarterly. Both are published in English at the same time they appear in Japan. Subscriptions to each cost $650 per year. The Nikkei Microdevices Flat Panel Display Yearbook 1997 has also been translated and made available. The 300-page annual contains information on industry trends, applications, charts, photographs, and coverage of emerging technologies.
