Kammer to lead NIST; Park appointed chairman of Genus Korea; Yarbro named vp of KLA-Tencor unit; ESD Association honors Weidendorf
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Raymond Kammer as director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Kammer, the institutes deputy director since 1993, was nominated for the Dept. of Commerce post by President Clinton following the resignation of Arati Prabhakar last March.... Fairchild Technologies has promoted William Ward to president of the companys semiconductor equipment manufacturing group worldwide. He previously served as president and gm of Fairchild Technologies USA. The Fremont, CAbased manufacturer also announced two appointments to its optical disc manufacturing equipment group. William Liggett was named president of the business unit, while Michael Gergen was hired as manager of the units European operations.
J. C. Park has been appointed chairman of Genus Korea. Park is president and chairman of Aju Exim, a Korea-based company that has acted as a sales representative for Genus since 1989. All Aju Exim sales functions will be merged into Genus Koreas operations.... Bill Lamkin returns to Promis Systems as vp, Asia Pacific. Lamkin, who will be based at the companys office in Singapore, had worked for the maker of semiconductor manufacturing software from 1986 through 1991.
Gordon Corlew has joined Veeco Instruments as gm of the ion beam systems division at the companys headquarters in Plainview, NY. The equipment supplier also appointed Henry Shii gm of Nihon Veeco, the companys Japanese unit. RTP equipment vendor AG Associates has promoted Nitin Shah to director of marketing and technical sales.
Stan Yarbro is the new vp and gm of KLA-Tencors surface metrology division. The vendor also named Dennis Fortino to head the unpatterned Surfscan division as vp and gm. Yarbro most recently served as president of Park Scientific Instruments. Fortino is the former vp and gm of the KLA-Tencors surface metrology division.... Bill Alexander has left KLA-Tencor to serve as vp of worldwide sales and field operations at GaSonics International.
The ESD Association has presented Joel Weidendorf with its Outstanding Contributions Award for his work in the field of electrostatic discharge. Weidendorf is chairman of the associations standards committee, which he reorganized to increase its efficiency. He oversaw IBMs worldwide ESD control program before retiring to establish his own consulting firm, Rivers Edge Technical Services....Paul Semenza has been appointed manager of strategic market analysis at Stanford Resources. The San Josebased firm specializes in market research for the electronic display industry. Semenza previously served as a program officer at the Computer Science and Telecommunications Board of the National Research Council.
John R. Frank, Jr., has been named senior vp for process technology development at Meissner+Wurst. He is the former director of site operations for Hitachi Semiconductor (America).... Rich Rohllf has joined Clestra Cleanroom as director of manufacturing.... The new vp of engineering at Mega Systems & Chemicals is Marvin Felcheck. He joins the Chandler, AZbased vendor from Lambda Novatronics.... OnTrak Systems has appointed Jas Randhawa vp of engineering, replacing John de Larios. De Larios will direct the companys cleaning technology group.
AlliedSignal Advanced Microelectronic Materials has appointed Michael Fury to the newly created position of development and technical marketing for CMP materials. Fury was manager for planarization at Rodel before joining AlliedSignal.... Ashland Chemical has named Michael Hogan packaging engineer for its electronic chemicals business unit.... Design and construction firm D&Z Microelectronics has appointed Robert Alexander department manager, process equipment installation. Alexander previously served as area manager for IDC of Portland.
The new vp of U.S. and foreign sales at Trebor International is Lawrence McCook. McCook comes to the company from Automated Semiconductor Equipment Corp., where he was chairman of the board and president.... Process tool equipment supplier CVC has appointed Tom Omstead managing director of its office in Austin, TX. Brian Chadwick was named vp of salessemiconductor products for the Rochester, NYbased company.
James Jenks has been chosen vp national sales manager for Comdisco Electronics Group, an equipment leasing and reconditioning company based in San Diego. The firm has also named Christopher Ouimet East Coast account manager.... YieldUP International has hired Frank Aguero as director of Far East sales and marketing. The company also appointed Donald Miller director of North American sales and Ted Onstead central region director of sales and marketing.
