Dickson named president of Lucent; Beacham becomes Gel-Pak president following buyout; Boehlke joins Fluoroware board; Lam likes Lindstrom
The American Vacuum Society has appointed Steve Rossnagel 1998 president-elect. Rossnagel is a research staff member at the IBM Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. An AVS member since the mid-1970s, he received the AVS Peter Mark Memorial Award in 1990 and became an AVS Fellow in 1994. He is responsible for selecting the program and local arrangements committee chairpersons for the AVS International Symposium, advising the AVS president, and soliciting articles for Physics News. . . . Lucent Technologies has named John Dickson president of its microelectronics group. Dickson, a member of the board of directors of Sematech, was vp of the integrated circuits division of the microelectronics unit before being named COO last year.
Gel-Pak has announced three new appointments following a management buyout at the company, formerly a division of Vichem. Jeanne Beacham is the new president, while James Bly has been named CFO. Beacham was promoted from vp of sales and marketing. Bly joins Gel-Pak from Park Scientific Instruments, where he was vp of finance. Chris Brodie has been appointed vp of manufacturing at the Sunnyvale, CAbased manufacturer of high-tech shipping carriers and film products. . . . Three executives have been named to head FSI International's newly established office of the president. Benjamin Sloan, formerly executive vp of FSI and president of the microlithography division, has been appointed COO, while Benno Sand will serve as chief administrative officer. Sand previously was the company's executive vp and CFO. Joel Elftmann, who has been named acting chief business development officer, will retain his positions as chairman and CEO. Meissner + Wurst has filled two top management positions for its U.S. operations in Dallas. Norbert Loch, formerly the company's vp of U.S. operations, has been named COO, while Rick Whitney was appointed vp of construction. Whitney joined Meissner + Wurst last year as director of construction after more than 14 years at Texas Instruments.
Robert Boehlke, executive vp and CFO of KLA-Tencor, has joined the board of directors of Fluoroware. . . . Clean enclosure systems manufacturer Servicor has appointed Walter Ferguson to its board of directors. Ferguson is a senior consultant at Wright Williams & Kelly, a cost-reduction modeling and simulation company. . . . Don Tran has been promoted to managing director of Southeast Asia operations of Watkins-Johnson's semiconductor equipment group. He most recently was gm of W-J's Taiwan subsidiary. . . . Paul Lindstrom has been named vp of global manufacturing operations at Lam Research. He comes to the Fremont, CAbased supplier of wafer fab tools from Applied Materials, where he was vp of manufacturing operations.
Giovanni Nocerino has been appointed executive vp of CVC, a manufacturer of cluster tools based in Rochester, NY. Nocerino previously worked for Varian as vp and gm of sales and marketing in the semiconductor equipment division. The process tool equipment supplier also has promoted Christopher Cosgrove to director of customer support. . . . Randhir Thakur joins AG Associates as vp of technology and R&D. Thakur previously managed Micron Technology's front-end process development and R&D. . . . MKS Instruments has chosen Paul Blackborow to fill the newly created position of corporate vp of marketing. Blackborow is the former director of sales at Trikon Technologies.
Mattson Technology has promoted Ferdinand Seemann to vp and gm of its CVD business unit. Seemann, who is the former vp of sales and marketing at Mattson, previously served as president of Steag Microtech, a German manufacturer of semiconductor process equipment. . . . Charles Lemak has been promoted to director of North American sales at Tegal. Lemak was the company's western regional sales manager. . . . Bob Whelton is Micrel Semiconductor's new executive vp of operations. He joins Micrel Semiconductor from Micro Linear, where he was executive vp in charge of operations, design, sales, and marketing.
William Fate, Roger Ingalls, Jr., and William McGahan have been elected to fill three new vp spots at Nanometrics. Fate is the former director of international sales at Nanometrics, while Ingalls was the director of North American sales. McGahan's appointment follows his promotion to director of applications engineering in October 1997. . . . Huntington Laboratories has promoted Jack Crummey to director of sales and marketing. Crummey, formerly national sales manager, replaces Ken Bertken, who will work on special sales and marketing projects for the manufacturer of high-vacuum components. . . . Steven Adkinson joins Astro Pak as UHP group manager. The UHP group performs ultra-high-purity cleaning and passivation for components within the gas path.
