Herrmann named president, CEO of MRS; Bhushan appointed executive vp, CFO of YieldUP; Dodson named vp at Novellus; Prozeller promoted to vp of quality at CVC
The British consulate-general of San Francisco has appointed William Elder honorary consul for Silicon Valley. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Elder is the founder and chairman of Genus, a manufacturer of CVD and ion implantation equipment. He will serve as a liaison between the Silicon Valley high-tech business community and the consulate, which is working to increase British business presence in the region. Before starting the Sunnyvale, CAbased company, Elder held management-level positions at Fairchild Semiconductor and Eaton.
Following the resignation of Griff Resor as head of the company, MRS Technology has named Carl Herrmann president and CEO. He will also serve as chairman of the company's board of directors. A 20-year veteran of the electronics industry, Herrmann established his own strategic management consulting business in 1995 and is the former president and CEO of Solbourne Computer. . . . Michael Moore replaces Shirley Clayton as president, CEO, and CFO of the scanning probe microscope vendor TopoMetrix. Prior to joining the Santa Clara, CAbased company, Moore held executive positions at Perkin-Elmer, Hitachi Instruments, and Fischer Imaging.
Abhay Bhushan has been appointed executive vp and CFO of YieldUP International in Mountain View, CA. Bhushan is a co-founder of the manufacturer of cleaning, rinsing, and drying equipment. Shirley Lien has left Applied Materials to join YieldUP as controller and director of finance and administration. She previously was the finance manager for CVD manufacturing at Applied. Also joining the company is Ru Chang as vp of research and development and Michael Sageman as director of central region sales. Chang comes to YieldUP from Komag, while Sageman was a sales manager at Nikon Precision.
AlliedSignal has filled two positions. Duncan Dobson joins the firm as vp of new business development. Dobson comes to AlliedSignal from MEMC Electronic Materials. Donald Jobe has been named vp of electronic materials for the company's Asian operations. Jobe has worked for AlliedSignal since 1979, and most recently has overseen the laminates business in Asia. . . . Dexter Electronic Materials has appointed L. Walter Guy vp and gm of Asian operations. He joins Dexter from Motorola's semiconductor business unit, where he was director of Asian manufacturing strategy. . . . Eaton's semiconductor equipment operations division has named Mary Puma vp and gm of its implant systems unit. She is the former gm of the company's commercial controls division in its semiconductor and specialty systems group.
EKC Technology has named Larry Kovar vp of worldwide operations. He is the former market development manager for Borden Chemical. The company has also announced the promotion of Robert Small to technical director of R&D. . . . Aaron Mitchell has been appointed to the newly established position of director of project management at Millennium Automation. He previously served as project manager for the Army Corps of Engineers in Ft. Lewis, WA.
John Villas has been promoted to CFO and vp of finance at Fluoroware. He had been the company's vp of finance since 1994. . . . FSI International has appointed Patricia Hollister CFO and controller. She joined the company in 1995 as corporate controller and previously was a senior manager at KPMG Peat Marwick. In other appointments, Thomas George has been elected to FSI's board of directors. He retired last year from Motorola, where he served as president and gm of the semiconductor products group. New CMP business manager Daniel Flynn joins FSI's chemical management division from Dow Chemical. . . . Novellus has appointed J. Michael Dodson vp. He also will retain his current position as corporate controller. . . . Bonnie Nelson is the new controller of Bloomington, MNbased Futurestar, a manufacturer of flow control monitoring components.
Deposition equipment vendor CVC has announced two appointments. Judd Prozeller has been promoted to vp of quality. He joined CVC in 1995 as director of quality. The company has named Dorian Heimanson chief scientist of PVD products. He is a former staff scientist at CVC, and previously he was a principal scientist at Stormedia and R&D manager at Sigmatron Nova. . . . Tosoh SMD has appointed Larry Murphy vp of manufacturing. He has worked for the sputtering target supplier since 1989. Sohail Qamar is the company's new advanced materials support manager, while Fred Bouchard has been appointed Northeast sales engineer. . . . Robert Glass has been named director of worldwide sales at SCP Global Technologies, a manufacturer of wet process equipment based in Boise, ID. Glass comes to SCP from BOC/Systems Chemistry, where he was vp of sales.
