Pall picks Tousi as corporate vp; American Vacuum Society makes Grunthaner president-elect; MKS promotes Samiotes; UMC wins Wan as vp of engineering

Extraction Systems has announced that ASML's Richard George has been elected to its board of directors. George is director of step-and-scan marketing for ASML. . . . The Veriflo division of Parker Hannifin appointed William Stubbs application engineering manager in Richmond, CA, where he will provide technical leadership for sales support. . . . Tosoh has named Michael Morris vp of marketing to direct global sales activity and customer/supplier partnerships. The company has also appointed Jason Atwater sales engineer for Northern California. He will provide sales and technical support for semiconductor and specialty thin-film-coating customers. . . . Pall appointed Saied Tousi corporate vp, scientific and laboratory services, to oversee the firm's scientific and technical support efforts throughout the Americas. Tousi joined Pall in 1986 as a staff scientist and was vp of regional laboratories in the scientific and laboratory services department.

Paula Grunthaner is the 1999 president-elect of the American Vacuum Society. An employee of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, for 23 years, she has conducted research into molecular beam epitaxy, interfacial chemistry, and interdiffusion of thin films. . . . GW Associates, provider of off-the-shelf component software for SECS and GEM communications links, named Steven Hausle executive vp. He came to the firm from Ultratech Stepper, where he served as regional sales manager. . . . Andreea Dinca has been chosen senior thin-film engineer and Barbara Grant sales and marketing manager in the coating services division at Denton Vacuum. Dinca spent nine years with the Institute of Atomic Physics in Romania, while Grant has served in various technical sales and marketing positions with Gould Precision Optics and Edmund Scientific. . . . With 17 years of direct process monitoring and applications experience, Nick Samiotes was promoted to director of worldwide sales for process analysis products at MKS Instruments. The company also promoted Steve Hansen, who has 24 years of experience in the semiconductor field and two patents, to product marketing manager for calibration products.

GOW-MAC Instrument, manufacturer of gas chromatographs and gas analyzers, appointed Carl Vozniak product manager of its specialty-gas-handling equipment division and Ming-Yi (Andy) Huang technical service engineer for the company's Taiwan service and technical support office. . . . Arden Anderson has been chosen by Silicon Genesis (SiGen) as vp of marketing and business development. Previously, Arden was vp of marketing for Mitsubishi Silicon America and served as chairman of silicon market statistics committees for SEMI and SIA. . . . Advanced Energy Industries (AE) named Joseph Monkowski senior vp, sales and marketing. Before the merger of AE and RF Power Products (RFPP), Monkowski was RFPP's senior vp and gm of the electronic technology business group. AE has also named William Ruff engineering vp for the firm's Voorhees, NJ, operation.

Ashland Chemical named Mark Kappes regional operations manager for its chemical management services business. He joined the company in 1988, after serving as site manager for Ashland's electronic chemicals unit. . . . Edward Wan joined UMC Group as vp of engineering. He will be in charge of establishing new processes to enable chip developers to utilize UMC's fabs. With 20 years of semiconductor experience, Wan was previously at Aspec Technology and Cadence Design Systems. . . . Mike Luttati has been named director, worldwide sales and service, of Eaton Semiconductor. . . . Ion Systems, a supplier of electrostatic energy management solutions for static-charge control, named James Suffoletta director of professional services. In this position, Suffoletta will develop compliance programs in accordance with new industry standards.

ESCA, a supplier of parts-cleaning and parts-management services, announced that Perry Taylor has joined the firm as sales engineer for the Albuquerque area and as a key account manager. With 24 years of experience in the electronics industry, Taylor spent the last seven with MKS Instruments. . . . Kamran Sadri joined MicroTool as director of manufacturing, and Kevin Harrell was promoted to electrical engineering manager with a focus on electronic alignment products . . . . Novellus Systems promoted Joseph Laia, Jr., to the position of senior director of strategic marketing. Before joining Novellus in 1997, he spent 11 years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. . . . Michael Pikulin was appointed to fill the new position of director of technology development at Voltaix. He leads a team of chemists and engineers involved in process and product development and pilot-scale manufacturing.
